ZYON, the Korean singer nicknamed the “mind healer

Today, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to ZYON, a young Korean artist with a sensitive pen and a powerful voice.

I met ZYON in Seoul at the end of April. Our meeting enabled me to learn more about her work as an artist. She also told me about the reasons that led her to become a singer, and the messages she wishes to deliver through her songs. Finally, we talked about the release of her latest single “Night Colored by You”.

Who is ZYON?

ZYON is a Korean artist nicknamed the“mind healer“. She works for the Korean agency RGBY. Far removed from traditional K-pop, ZYON’s gentle music and poignant lyrics bring comfort to the listener.

Why did she become a singer?

As a child, ZYON wanted to be a painter. However, for personal reasons, she had to give up painting. This sudden stop was particularly complicated for her, but she found comfort in music, and singing helped her to overcome this stage. That’s how she decided she wanted to become a singer. She wanted others to be able to find comfort in complicated times like hers.

Following this new turn in her life, she began to take singing lessons. Later, she went on to study music at university.

After graduating, she joined a music distribution company. The current CEO of RGBY, Peter Dalwoo Kim, was CEO of this company. They worked together, and one day over lunch, after talking to ZYON and her sister, he decided to recruit them to RBGY. So, last year, she finally joined RGBY with her sister SUMMER.

What messages does she want her music to convey?

Through its music, ZYON wishes to deliver a strong message, which is as follows:

you can do it even if it feels like everything is crumbling around you. You can overcome anything.

She wants to deliver this message because it’s what she likes to feel when she listens to music. Her wish is to be able to transmit this emotion to those who listen to her.

She also tells us that her MBTI (personality type) is ISTP. She therefore tends to be a very shy person, finding it difficult to express her emotions, a feeling that is often frustrating. But through music, she manages to deliver her messages in a gentler way. Music becomes an instrument for her to express her emotions.

Working with a psychologist

She works with psychologist Dr. Ju Sun Roh. Originally, she was just his patient. But, she explains, she used the advice or comforting messages he gave her and expressed them through her music.

She wanted to help people through singing, and her psychologist was doing the same through his work. And so, one day, they agreed to collaborate. This collaboration mainly takes the form of Dr. Ju Sun Roh helping ZYON with her songwriting. He gives her advice and ideas that enable her to write songs with messages that can make a real impact on people.

Her new single “Night Colored by You

His latest single “Night Colored by You” was recorded for the K-drama Cinderella game produced by KBS(Korean Broadcasting System). As KBS is one of South Korea’s biggest TV channels, this experience was an honor, but ZYON also confides that it was a challenge, as singing a soundtrack for such an important production channel was a first for her. However, she explains that the experience went extremely well, as the KBS team was very friendly.

The song, released for the second part of the K-drama, speaks of the nostalgia of a past love and the hope of a new beginning. Available on various streaming platforms, the music and video clip perfectly convey the emotion of the K-drama.

During the interview, RGBY CEO Peter Dalwoo Kim tells us an anecdote unknown to ZYON itself. He explains that the company in charge of producing the K-drama had contacted the RGBY agency with an initial musical proposal. However, RGBY refused, as they considered the music unsuitable for ZYON. So the production company returned to RGBY a few days later with a second musical proposal, specially designed for ZYON. This time, RGBY accepted the offer, considering that both the lyrics and the melody coincided with ZYON’s universe and messages.
